Identification of ADHD in young children is difficult because of their rapid development of language and self control, but there are children who do need extra help. This workshop will review the American Academy of Pediatric guidelines for diagnosis, for other possible causes of impulsive and inattentive behaviors, and review recommended referral and treatment approaches.

1. recognize typical temperamental variation in young children.
2. identify home and community variables that affect behavior.
3. recognize the impact of language development on self control
4. have the abiltiy to consider these 3 factors in making a referral for ADHD.
